The Antezana name
The name comes from the village of Antezana, in the municipality of Foronda near Vitoria, in Álava, Basque Country. From there the lineage spread through Castile and, centuries later, reached Bolivia, the country with more Antezanas than any other.
In 1483, Luis de Antezana and Isabel de Guzmán founded the Hospital de Antezana in Alcalá de Henares. It operates to this day as an elder-care residence and is considered the oldest working hospital in Europe. San Ignacio de Loyola lived and worked there in 1526.
